fresh-cut christmas trees
You will need to give your tree proper care to insure that it remains fresh, attractive and safe throughout the holiday season.
1. Make a fresh cut off the bottom of the trunk. This will open up the vascular system of the tree so that it can take up water properly.
2. Place the tree in a large bucket of water. Let the tree absorb the water for 24 hours. This can be done in your garage or outside if the temperature is not below freezing. The tree will absorb a lot of water initially.
3. The following day, move your tree inside to a sturdy stand that holds at least one gallon of water.
4. Be sure to always keep the water level above the base of the tree. If the base dries out, a resin will form over the cut end and the tree will not be able to absorb water and will dry out quickly.
5. Fresh trees take up water at a very fast rate. Check the water at least once daily to see that it’s above the bottom of the tree’s base. It is not uncommon for trees to absorb a quart or more of water daily.
6. Keep your tree away from sources of heat (fireplaces, heaters, heat vents, direct sunlight). Lowering the room temperature will slow the drying process, resulting in less water consumption each day. A cool room is best.Enjoy your fresh cut tree. We’re sure that it will add color, fragrance and spirit during the holiday season as the family gathers around.
